It's been a while since my last post. I still buy plenty of books online, but I'm more cautious than I used to be, and way busier, which means I don't have time to document bookseller shenanigans as often as I used to.
I've got a link, though, that provides a downright fascinating analysis of something of interest to booksellers and authors alike: the Amazon Sales Rank of a book.
Speculation has abounded for years as to what a book's rank means. A half-dozen or so articles and discussion forum posts over the years have shed light on the topic.
The best summary of this topic to date is at the below link. I would do what most blog authors do and post a fair-use quote from the paper, but that didn't seem appropriate here.
